February 23rd, 2008
NAVY EVENT OF THE CENTURY THE USS NEW YORKS CHRISTENINGSaturday March 1st 2008 at 10:00 AM By Scott KoenIts been 2362 days since the twin towers were knocked down in the sneak attack on 9-11. On September 13, 2001, President Bush told the world We will Never Forget. And now, on March 1st 2008, A US Navy ship, built from those very towers, with the motto Never Forget will be christened New York.Don’t miss it this weekend. View it live in a web-cast from Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Avondale LA. Watch as the ships sponsor, Mrs. Dotty H. England breaks the ceremonial bottle of champagne across her bow and proclaims, I christen thee New York. Out of our greatest sorrow comes an even greater symbol of our resilience. The USS New Yorks importance to this City, State and Nation cannot be underestimated. There is no other ship in world history that will carry the import and prestige that this vessel carries. She will become Americas greatest naval ambassador and will carry our flag to the 4 corners of the world throughout the 21st century.Fair Winds and following seas to the USS New York and the US Navy-Marines Corps team. Godspeed.

God bless the USS New York, her crew, and the souls of the victims of 9/11 including my friend Firefighter John Giordano.

This is one of the most beautiful memorials I have ever heard of, my only sadness is that I am no longer active duty, as I cannot think of a more honorable duty than to stand on that bow knowing that we are not only a force of sailors, but forever surronded by a force of “angels” who’s souls must be dancing in heaven. May she bring honor and glory to all those hero’s who lost their lives, and healing to all the families left behind. God Bless the USA.
